Mohau Counselling Centre desires to see people supported, healed and lives transformed.
Mohau Counselling Centre, as part of the outreach arm of Christ Church Midrand, has been part of the Midrand community for more than 30 years. Mohau Counselling Centre was established in October 2020 as a response to address all forms of abuse. This includes Christian counselling for trauma related to gender-based violence, emotional abuse, substance abuse and more. Our counsellors offer holistic, value-based counselling and small group care, with the support of a large referral network.
“Mohau” means mercy. As a registered NPO and NPC (along with Section 18a) we attend to the roots of trauma and abuse in all its forms through professional counselling. For individuals, for families and communities.
Our vision is to show mercy and heal our communities and country to stop the cycle of abuse and enable South Africa to fulfil its fruitful promise. This includes counselling the perpetrators of abuse.
The scourge of Abuse and Gender-based violence (GBV) is a profound and widespread problem in South Africa and across the world. Globally, one in three women experiences either intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence during their lifetime (WHO). GBV is not just on media channels, it’s in our homes. It cuts across all races, cultures, genders, beliefs, and age groups. It affects the rich as much as the poor. Those affected are our employees, peers, neighbours, those in our community and, sometimes, they could even be our loved ones and families.
Our “pay what you can afford” sessions are often fully subsidised thanks to our far-sighted donors. As a diverse team at Mohau Counselling Centre, we are committed to offering excellent support no matter one’s race, religion or financial position.
